Next, some prepositions:

Finally, some grammar notes about using the words "may" and "can."

 

The question words "may" and "can" are similar in use, but for many English speakers, they carry different meanings.

"May" asks someone for permission.

 

May I come in?

入ってもいいですか?

 

May I go to the party?

パーティへ行ってもいいですか?

 

May he stay all night?

彼は一晩中いてもいいですか?

 

 

 

"Can" asks whether someone is able.

 

Can you come tomorrow?

あなたは明日来ることができますか?

 

Can he finish this evening?

彼は今晩終わらせることができますか?

 

Can you work on Monday?

あなたは月曜日に働くことができますか?
