Lesson 93, Part 2

  音 L93P2J.MP3[587KB]

ANITA:

What's your opinion, Martin? You've been very quiet.

MARTIN:

I've been listening. I'm Martin Learner, by the way.

JAY:

Do you have children?

MARTIN:

They are a little older, Jay.

ANITA:

Your daughter isn't very old. What do you think about her watching television?

MARTIN:

In my opinion, we see too much violence.

VANCE:

I think we see the other side too. I believe the news programs do very well.

ANITA:

Let's agree there are too many guns on television. What can we do?

VANCE:

I don't agree, but I'll listen.

JAY:

Martin, what would you recommend?

TINA:

I think we should boycott television.

YUKI:

Boycott?

ANITA:

That means we should stop watching TV.

YUKI:

I don't agree. I feel that is not good.

MARTIN:

Are some programs better than others?

ANITA:

Sure. I think some programs are OK.

JAY:

I agree. I don't think they're all bad.

VANCE:

I feel there are more good programs than bad programs.

TINA:

Oh, no. That's absurd.

MARTIN:

Could you decide which programs are the worst?

JAY:

And which ones are the best?

TINA:

And then what?

MARTIN:

Then you could decide on a plan. Maybe you could tell the television companies how you feel about the programs.

YUKI:

Would they listen?

ANITA:

I think they would.

MARTIN:

I believe they would too. They want you to watch their programs.

JAY:

They don't want you to turn off TV, like Tina.

TINA:

I believe I should turn it off when it's bad.

MARTIN:

That's one way, of course. Don't you think you could work together?

ANITA:

Do you think we could write letters?

JAY:

I don't have time. I don't even have time to watch TV with my children.

ANITA:

Maybe we need more parents to help us. Do you agree?

VANCE:

That would help I think. Could we study the programs?

JAY:

All of them?

ANITA:

We know the most popular ones. We could ask all the parents to list their children's favorite programs.

MARTIN:

Then ask parents to choose the best.

VANCE:

I think they should put them in order. You know, best at the top and worst at the bottom.

JAY:

I think that's a good idea.

YUKI:

Do you think we would agree?

VANCE:

Probably not.

ANITA:

I believe we would agree on some programs.

TINA:

In my opinion, it won't work.

MARTIN:

I feel you should try it. You might agree on the very bad programs. Those are the ones you don't want your children to watch.

ANITA:

Martin, could you help us get started?

MARTIN:

I'd be happy to.

ANITA:

Good night, Martin. Thanks for coming.

MARTIN:

You're welcome. I enjoyed it. See you soon.
